Carowinds Amusement Park opens the 2015 season with lots of fury! The park’s newest giga coaster puts other rollercoasters to shame. Fury 325 is the world’s tallest and fastest . How tall and how fast you ask? The thrill ride stands 325 feet tall- that’s 20 feet taller than the Statue of Liberty- with an 81 degree drop reaching speeds of 95 miles per hour. This is not for the faint at heart!
Before the general public braved this beast of a coaster, Carowinds held a media day preview. I was very impressed with how well it was planned and the execution. Media from both North and South Carolina were greeted with a live band as they walked into a new park entrance. This same park entrance is where onlookers can actually see people whizzing by on Fury 325. The day started with an official ribbon cutting featuring video messages from dignitaries of North and South Carolina. This project is part of a planned $50 million multi-year expansion at the park.
The first riders loaded up. The group of 95 won their seat through an auction for the Cam Newton Foundation. Over $18,000 was raised for the Cam Newton foundation.
Then the moment of truth… the first riders while still trying to gather their thoughts, grasp for air and really come to terms with what just happened now has to deal with cameras and mics in their face. (The news never stops!) “How was it?” Every response was pretty much the same. Amazing. Awesome. Scary Good. I’d do it Again.
After preparing for a live shoot for the noon broadcast we were allowed to take on Fury 325. The morning team and my husband tested it out while I looked out for our equipment. My husband who I consider a rollercoaster buff gave it rave reviews but in his estimation said the 300 feet drop is NO JOKE! He actually said to himself as he plunged down on this coaster, “This may not be a good idea.”
I am happy to report he and the others survived with great memories. An anchor from a competing station who will remain nameless rode Fury 325 at least 4 or more times. I think he is a FAN! (LOL)
And speaking of riding, what I call the granddaddy of all coasters, I know you want my personal experience.
So did the Rosho take the show on the road, LIVE from the coaster???
Wait for it…
I decided to keep my feet on solid ground. This is as close as I came to riding Fury 325. But all was not lost. I met a guy with green hair and the food was delish, which is usually what happens when I go to Amusement parks.
So, let me hear from you. Are you brave enough? Would you be willing to ride Fury 325?
